The process of creating marquetry involves several steps:

Veneer Selection: Different types of wood veneer or other materials, such as shell, bone, or metal, are selected for their colors, grain patterns, and textures. These veneers are typically thin slices of wood that are obtained by slicing or peeling a log.

Cutting and Shaping: The selected veneers are then cut into the desired shapes using specialized tools like a fretsaw or a laser cutter. The shapes can be intricate and precise, requiring skill and attention to detail.

Assembly: The cut veneer pieces are assembled and arranged according to the design, creating the desired pattern or image. The pieces are carefully fit together, like a puzzle, ensuring a tight and seamless fit.

Gluing and Finishing: The assembled veneer pieces are glued onto a stable base, such as a wooden panel or furniture surface. The entire surface is then sanded and finished to achieve a smooth and even appearance. Finishing techniques, such as staining, varnishing, or polishing, may be applied to enhance the beauty of the marquetry design.
